Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine was developed around 659BCE to 621BCE by looking at patterns within nature as a whole and studying how those patterns are also reflected within the body.

They used these observations to create a system of medicine that promotes balance both within the body and mind as well as with the environment.

The practice of traditional Chinese veterinary medicine is comprised of four main components: acupuncture, herbal medicine, food therapy and Tui-na (medical manipulation, similar to chiropractic manipulation).

Veterinary Acupuncture uses very small sterile needles to stimulate specific points in the body to create a therapeutic effect. Through advances in science we now know these points are areas where a high density of free nerve endings, blood vessels and immune system cellular components are found.

Stimulation of these points causes the release of serotonin, endorphins and other neurotransmitters that promote wellness. Acupuncture is a very safe treatment modality and is usually pain free.

It can be used alongside other medical therapies to treat a wide variety of ailments including; pain relief from musculoskeletal problems such as arthritis, neurological disorders like seizures, diarrhea and constipation, behavioral issues, endocrine disorders and other chronic conditions.
